20+ hours later and i just landed back on the west coast from my trip to bali, and mexico so i’m going to have to keep this one brief. first things first, at the end of the day, we all have those jewelry pieces that help complete 'US'.
the most important pieces above all things would be jewelry in my mind. these are the simple pieces that bring it all together full circle. now as a large collector of thrifted-vintage jewelry, there are only a few pieces now that i wear 24/7. perhaps these exact pieces are the ones i feel most connected with. i would say i have been collecting jewelry for the last 5 years, however i feel i never really found those pieces that i felt were meant for me besides maybe my silver native american chief ring that i found the summer of 2012 in a thrift store off the PCH that i lost this year in a taxi ... i would either find pieces that were almost everything i was looking for, tho they lacked one or two things, or i would find pieces that were exactly what i was looking for but in the wrong size.
now after reaching the point of feeling no hope to find “my pieces”, i decided to go the route of having custom jewelry made. 10+ custom pieces later, i did just that and now i have what i like to call “my pieces”.
you know you are connected to your jewelry when you either are boarding your flight and realize 15 minutes to departure that you had left your ring on the counter of the Taiwan airport after washing your hands and have to run back to the restroom to find your gold ring sitting in the exact spot after being there for over an hour in a public airport restroom or you either lose one of your rings after swimming in the ocean and you some how find it hours later in the sand while drinking a glass of red wine. regardless of which ever the case may be, basically i believe that your pieces are your pieces and they’re meant to be yours until the moment you lose them and they never return. the more you lose and find your jewelry, i feel those pieces become more of you, for you, and special as time passes.
